A recent splashback project. This job involved removing the old tiles, repairing the wall to provide a flat surface, and fitting new 200 × 100mm ceramic metro-style tiles in a brick bond pattern.
The process
During removal, a lot of the existing plaster came away with the old tiles, leaving exposed sand and cement. The concrete build-up on the windowsill had also become loose and could no longer be reused. Once the tiles and old adhesive were stripped back, I repaired the walls using a rapid repair mortar to create a flat, suitable surface for tiling.
The loose concrete from the windowsill was removed and rebuilt to match the existing level. The old boxing-in was replaced with tile backer board, ensuring it was plumb before tiling.
The finished installation was completed with white grout throughout and a matt white metal trim for a clean, simple finish.
